EV Charger Installations in the Triangle Area

The first step in your installation involves assessing your electrical system and determining the ideal charging unit for your vehicle and your lifestyle. You have two basic options for home EV chargers, level 1 or level 2. Level 1 may be appropriate for those who don’t travel a long distance every day and adds about five miles for every hour of charge.
For people who travel further and need a faster charge, a level 2 charge station can be installed. Your service will be evaluated and may require adding a new circuit for the charging station. For older homes, upgrading your electrical service may be necessary. A 240-volt EV charging station will then be installed in the most convenient location, quickly, efficiently, and according to code.

EV CHARGER FAQ

Level 1 is using a standard 120-volt electrical outlet that you will find in your garage. This limits you to 3-5 miles of charging per hour and is the slowest charging option.

Level 2 is charging with a 240-volt circuit. This requires professional installation of either a NEMA 14-50 outlet or a hardwired charging station. This increasing your charging rate significantly so you can easily recharge your vehicle overnight. This is your fastest charging option within your home.
There are several charger manufacturers that we highly recommend based on reliability, quality, and pricing.

For Tesla Users- We highly recommend a Tesla Wall Connector, or Tesla Mobile Connector (240V)

For Non-Tesla Users- We highly recommend Chargepoint, Juicebox, or Wallbox chargers.
Most standard installations range from $899 to $1,700. This does not include the actual price of a Level 2 charger (about $500 to $800 depending on the model).

The standard installation includes all permits, inspections, labor, materials and expertise needed to add a dedicated circuit and either install a NEMA 14-50 electrical outlet, or hardwire your charging station and mount it on your wall.

The majority of homes in our area qualify for a standard installation, which just means that your garage must be attached to the home and your electrical panel must have:

• Adequate power to handle the load of the new charging station

• Enough physical space to accommodate the new circuit breaker

If your home does not meet these requirements, we can absolutely provide you with different solutions so you can still enjoy the benefits of a Level 2 charger in your home.
Time for the good news! It absolutely can be free. Duke Energy has recently started a very new program to encourage all households to become EV ready. What that means, is they are providing customers a very generous rebate up to $1,117 for electrical upgrades associated with EV chargers.

Since most of our Level 2 charger installations fall below this rebate amount, you can have your new Level 2 charger installed for free.

100%. Not only is a permit required for the completion of a Level 2 charger, but it is in your best interest to have one.

Safety - Permitting allows you to have a final inspection performed by a town electrical inspector to ensure your installation is safe and installed properly.

Insurance - An improperly installed Level 2 charger can be a major fire & safety risk. Having a permit & inspection not only lessens that risk, but it also protects you in the event of an unforeseen accident related to the EV charger. If a claim is ever filed, your insurance company would likely request proof that everything was installed properly. We simplify the whole installation by handling the permitting and inspection process for you.
For reference, our standard installations are typically completed within 3 hours. That means you can start charging your vehicle as soon as we are done cleaning up!
Almost all of our standard Level 2 installations can be performed with zero interruptions to you. We understand that more and more people are working from home, so we go above and beyond to make sure your full electrical system remains uninterrupted during installation.
We have a very simple process to get started. We will start with a brief phone call where we can answer any additional questions you might have. We will also ask you a few basic questions (type of car, where you plan to park, electrical panel location, etc). We will also request one or two general photos to help us assess your electrical system.

We will then put together a quote for you once we have all the information we need. After receiving your approval, we will file all associated permits & inspections, then contact you to schedule your installation date & time.

I couldn't be happier with the install. I got a ev charger installed. The fuse box was on the outside of my house behind the garage,and I ran the 240 to the garage door. I got a bunch of quotes from other electricians and electrical companies. They did the work for 1000s less. They broke a fuse switch replaced it no cost, they installed a whole home surge protector, and my 240 line for my car. Passed inspection, and it was still all cheaper by 1000s then 4 other quotes. I highly recommend getting a quote from them before you settle on a service.

Triad Electrical installed my EV charger, and I couldn't be more happy. From the quote to the installation, everything was done on time and quickly. I wanted my charger on a specific side, and they accommodated that request without any issues. Our porch and fan were not working and we called Triad. Nicholas and Frank did some trouble shooting and determined it was the receiver for the remote. They also found a breaker popped and found we had a paper shredder plugged in to a low voltage outlet. Both young men were professional and informed us what they were doing as they went along. After purchasing our first EV vehicles we quickly realized that a hardwired charger would be needed (actually two since we ended up with two EVs). Our electrical panel also was the original panel from the house construction in 1978 with no additional circuit space so needed that upgraded as well.Called multiple electricians to come and give us quotes on our upgrade project. Triad had one of the best prices of the bunch (one other company actually refused to give an upfront quote and said they would add pricing as they hit issues. No thank you). They also had the best review rating of the ones that we called.Harvey (the representative) was on time for the quote and listened carefully to what I wanted completed. He took note of everything and sent me the quote that evening. The quote was right in line with all of the other companies cost wise. They also spelled out exactly what was being done in the quote. A few other company quotes were much more generic (ie we'll hang a charger on the wall, Triad actually stated they would mount within x feet of the front edge of the wall, install a 200 amp panel, etc)Install day came and the crew was right on time. Much to my delight Harvey was back again for the work day. Most of my other home projects the install crew has never seen the project (or sometimes even talked to the sales rep) so having Harvey who did the initial quote and size up back with the install team was a great benefit.The whole team worked very well together and communicated things back to me at every point (When they were cutting power for example). When a new outlet was being added they made sure to ask me where I would have liked those located. Kudos to all.All in all a very great experience with Triad. They will definitely be the only call I'll make for any future electrical work I may need.

For my EV charger, Triad installed 240V, 50A circuit breaker, 50A wiring, and NEMA 14-50 outlet & wall box, and cleaned up in less than two hours!Everything was seamless from the first phone call to schedule a free estimate to the inspection. They text when they're on the way, and they either arrived early, or within the first hour of the expected time frame for each visit (quote, work, and inspection).Harvey walked me through what all I need to apply for Duke Energy's EV charger prep credit and took care of everything else, which included pulling the permits, returning for the inspection, and providing the necessary paperwork from their end.They were easy to work with, communicative, punctual. We had three technicians sent out to hang 2 fans (15-foot ceiling), a chandelier (18-foot ceiling), two garage LED four-foot light fixtures on a 15-foot ceiling, two flush-mount light fixtures in hallway and a room, add a dimmer switch, and repair a short and replace bulbs for corner-mount exterior floodlights. All of the work was accomplished in three hours and the quality of the work, and the courtesy of the electricians, was outstanding. They sought our input on placement, hanging height, and location of furniture they needed to move out of the way. We give them our highest recommendation - A+ on all categories for this type of job. We plan to have them return for some additional work as soon as it can be scheduled.

All aspects of the process have been first class, from Harvey coming to evaluate our circuit breaker box for correct voltage for an EV charger, to the 2 guys that installed the hard wired charger, All were very knowledgeable and efficient.
